CRUTIN

The heart of the hill where the Nota winery stands, with its beautiful view of the orderly vineyards and its luxuriant Roero woods, hides an ancient treasure:

The Crutin Nicolai

In the Piedmontese tradition, Crutin is a characteristic underground cellar dug into the tuff, a fresh and deep environment in which the wine is kept. Crutin like this are true masterpieces of sculpture. Crutin Nicolai is a precious family inheritance: it was made by an ancestor at the end of the nineteenth century, in memory of the century that was ending. The tuff was excavated for about eight years to a depth of 12 meters, resulting in five large rooms enriched with valuable decorations. For over fifty years after the death of its creator, the work remained shrouded in mystery and its discovery gave new life to the one who had shaped it with dedication. With the same passion of the ancestors we produce a special selection of wine, aged in French oak barrels.
